Sheriff Ty Koch

Mission Statement

I believe that first and foremost, that my primary function as sheriff is to protect and serve every citizen of Osage County. I want to let the citizens know that they can count on my staff and I to provide them with the best Sheriff’s Office we can. Through continued training and community involvement we shall build upon what past sheriff’s have started and make the Osage County Sheriff’s Office something every citizen can be proud of.


Sheriff Ty Koch began his law enforcement career with the Fairfax, Oklahoma Police Department in 1988. Ty graduated from the Basic C.L.E.E.T. Academy in 1989. In 1991, former Sheriff Wes Penland urged Ty to seek employment with the Osage County Sheriff’s Office. Ty took that advice and has been with the office ever since Sheriff Koch started as a patrol deputy and was promoted to patrol supervisor in 1994. That same year he took an active role in fighting the drug problem within the county, by assisting the District Attorney’s Office for Osage and Pawnee Counties on their Drug Investigation Unit.

Sheriff Koch was again promoted in 1996 to the Investigation Division of the sheriff’s office. As an investigator within the office, Ty was in charge of all types of criminal cases, from homicide to personal and property crimes.

Former Sheriff Wes Penland promoted Ty to the position of Undersheriff in September 2004. Osage County Commissioners appointed Ty Koch as Sheriff on April 25th, 2005. The people of Osage County Elected Ty as their Sheriff on November 7, 2006.

Training and Education

Sheriff Ty Koch has received over 1,100 hours of education and training through local, state and federal levels.

In 2005, Ty attended the mandatory Oklahoma Sheriff’s Academy in Oklahoma City. This academy covered all aspects of a sheriff’s responsibilities in managing and operating the sheriff’s office and jail.
